I've dwelled in the North almost my entire life (aside from that year and a half I spent in Nashville and laughed when school was canceled to an expected inch of snow). Some may think after 20 something years you are bound to get acclimated to the winter, right? Not me. In fact, during summer I dread the countdown to December through March. The minute it gets below 30 degrees I make jokes about hibernating. Am I really joking? Nah. For any other winter haters, here are some things we may communally hate:
1. Potholes
Here is an accurate representation of what a Pennsylvania road often looks like:
Here is an artistic representation of a pothole that decided to give my car a flat tire recently (I personally think the resemblances are spot on. Also yeah, I'm still salty about the pothole, okay?):
Regardless of whether you like winter or not, I believe we can all admit that the roads (especially in Pennsylvania) are awful.
2. School Cancelations??? (What are thoooose?)
After transferring from a school in Nashville that canceled school to an INCH of snow, it will always be difficult for me to slip-slide to class in negative degree weather with a foot of snow expected after I leave my class.
3. Grey Skies
What can I say? I need some sunshine in my life to get me out of bed.
4. Cold Cars
There is nothing worse than having to sit in your car for five minutes as it struggles to life and you see your own soul leaving you with every breath.
(Too soon GoT lovers? Sorry.)
5. Mittens
I admit that mittens are definitely a cute addition to a wardrobe, and sure they will keep your fingers warm, but am I the only one that can't function with them on? Try to take your phone out of your pocket? Nah, that thing that skedaddled right from your fingers like a bar of wet soap and landed into a waiting heap of snow. Want to suggest fingerless gloves? Kiss your fingers goodbye to the cold.
Maybe someday when I am older I will return to the south, but for now it looks like I'm left dealing with the cold. . .and complaining about it.
