5 Things My Mom Taught Me

Mom, where would I be without you? You've taught me so much over the years it would be impossible to write it all down. Without your strength and wisdom I don't know where I would be today. Thank you, thank you for being the courageous woman I find myself looking up to every single day.

1. Appreciate conversation

She taught me to appreciate the little conversations with your parents, siblings and grandparents. They may not seem like a big deal at the time. But, then you're off to college and you find yourself missing their voice and missing the silly little convos you had with them. From talking about school, to lame jokes, you'll find yourself wanting that back.

2. Seek The Lord

Some people choose not to believe in him, others choose not to acknowledge him, my mother taught me to seek him. I learned to seek him in the good times and the bad. He's always there to listen to me when no one else will. And when the going gets rough it's nice to know I have God to guide me.

3. Work hard

I have no other bigger inspiration than my mom. She had me at a very young age and still graduated with honors at the University of Texas. Big shoes to fill right? Right. She teaches me every day that working hard for what I want will pay off no matter how long it takes and no matter how many tears were shed in the making. She teaches me not to give up, no matter how wrong things are going for me, to always find the silver linings in things.

4. Not all relationships work out

If it's a friendship or a relationship, it's okay for things to end. People change and grow everyday. It's perfectly okay to not have your entire high school clique by your side in college. And as we grow, we experience new things, meet to people and eventually will meet the love of our life. She also taught me it's so important to value quality over quantity. And to seek the best in our friends, and be with people that bring out the best in us.

5. Be thankful

This is something you taught me at a very young age, and seems to become more and more important every day. We have a lot to be grateful for, even at times when we don't even realize it. Learning to be thankful, even for the smallest things has got me through a lot throughout the years, and I know will continue to do so.

I hope this article opens up your heart and your eyes to appreciate your mothers even more! And thank you, Mom, you've always been with me through the think and thin, and continue to teach and lead me through an amazing life.

Your best friend, Haley.

The first two weeks of classes have come to an end and they have been anything BUT easy. It seems like life has been serving up more bad than good and in all honesty, the only thing you want to do is crawl under your covers and hide from the rest of the world.

Although this seems like the best solution, it is also the easy way out. Take it from the girl who took basically a whole week off from her life because she just could not handle everything that was being thrown at her. This caused her to feel extremely lonely and even more stressed out for being behind in classes that JUST began.

11 Things We Learned From Brooke Davis

"What's more important? What we become or how we become it?"

Brooke Davis

"She was fiercely independent, Brooke Davis. Brilliant, and beautiful, and brave. In two years she had grown more than anyone I had ever known. Brooke Davis is going to change the world someday, and I'm not sure she even knows it." - Lucas Scott, An Unkindness of Ravens

Brooke Davis of the hit show One Tree Hill was the it girl - she had it all, or so we thought. She started out as a stuck-up, shallow, spoiled, head cheerleader who didn't have her life together. She slept around a lot and loved to party - sounds like your typical high school teenager right? Wrong. B. Davis had so much more to offer. Caring, loyal, and outspoken, she has taught us some valuable lessons throughout the 9 seasons that OTH was on the air:

We all have a person, and when that person makes some new friends, we tend to forget all the great things that can come out of it. Never forget how special they are to you and why you are best friends.
