The outfits are cool, but I'm here to talk about the music.

While everyone else has been living their lives, I was busy live-streaming (read: daydreaming) about Coachella. In case you have no clue what that is, Coachella is one of the most prominent music festivals in the United States. For two weekends in April, Coachella Valley is packed to the brim with music lovers and celebrities alike. Here are some of the artists that you missed if you weren’t at the festival (or glued to your computer screen).

1. Purity Ring

Yes, they have an interesting name, but this group is so much more than a name. With catchy beats and great lead vocals this is definitely an electronic duo that you should check out if you haven’t heard of them. Lucky for you, they’re going to be on tour until August if you end up falling in love with them.

2. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

When I first heard this group I did not want to give them a fair chance, but then I heard them play their song “Home.” If you didn’t watch the live-stream, or you weren’t at the festival then you missed out on a beautiful moment where Edward Sharpe spoke to a fan who told him that his music changes people’s lives. I’m not going to lie, it made me cry a little. Skip to 4:00 minutes in the video if you want to cry as well.

3. James Bay

This little hipster Jesus is one of my new favorite artists thanks to Coachella. All of his songs make me want to sing along and hold up a lighter while I’m swaying from side to side. This man really gives off the campfire singing vibe, and it’s incredibly refreshing amongst all of the pizzaz and entertainment that’s present at Coachella.

4. A$AP Rocky feat. Kanye

Okay, first thing’s first. Everyone knows who Kanye is, but what most people don’t know is that A$AP’s set was cut off right after he pulled Kanye on stage to perform with him! A$AP Rocky started singing a song, but then realized that his microphone was off. Which ultimately lead to a lot of anger both on and off stage. So long story short, not a new artist, but definitely something you missed out on!

5. Halsey + Brandon Urie

First, Halsey is an up and coming artist who is constantly challenging the status quo with her hair and her music. Second, she brought out an artist who helped to inspire her to become who she is today! If you haven’t heard of Halsey then I’m sure you’ve heard of Panic! At the Disco. Brandon Urie of Panic! came out to help Halsey sing “New Americana” as well as “I Write Sins not Tragedies.”

I guess you’re not missing out on everything in life if you weren’t at Coachella, but you at least missed some once in a lifetime musical experiences. If you’re half the music nerd that I am, you’ll be buying your tickets for Coachella 2017 the minute they go on sale!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
