With my return to college from what felt like the longest summer ever, I found myself reminiscing about everything I love about Carlow. This article will be a surprise to my college friends because I am verbally expressive of just what I hate about Carlow. However, for me to hate something there has to be something I like... right? Anyway these are five things i missed about a little catholic school on a hill.

1. Tiernan Cafeteria

If you know anything about Tiernan, I'm sure you are asking yourself, "What the hell is he thinking? How could he miss that place?" Bear with me for a second. It isn't the food i missed or even the cafeteria itself, I miss the ritual that comes with going to Tiernan. That on a typical day, I'll probably be watching Netflix or playing video games and suddenly I hear people in the hall or "Hold the elevator" and I know that it's after 5 p.m. and time to drag myself up the hill. Then, once i get inside, I look to my left to see which friends are already here. Which brings me to my next point.

2. Carlow Brohood

I don't recall there ever being verbal confirmation that this is where the Carlow guys will sit at during dinner, however most of the Carlow guys just assimilate to the same few tables every day. It isn't as though we planned it, I feel as though it was just like minded instinct. It goes past just the Tiernan tables. If someone is going to CVS about five or more end up going and making an adventure out of it.

3. AC

Sure, maybe this is a bit trivial, but considering I live in my house's attic with no AC and the hellish summer heat making my room consistently hot and humid, can't blame me for missing such a wonder invention.

4. Adventures

College and adventure goes hand in hand. They are pretty much synonyms. If you're in college and not having adventures, you're not doing it right. By adventure, I don't mean something incredible, an adventure can be just a night of movies and food, as long as it's memorable. And Carlow is no slouch when it comes to having adventures. From the moment you step into this place, the opportunities you have for great memories are endless.

5. My friends

The backbone of the other points, maybe except the AC. I wouldn't miss the rituals of Tiernan, my Carlow bros, and have such great adventures if it wasn't for my friends. It was a friendship that initially made me apply for Carlow, and it's my friends who keep me wanting to come back. I can get my degree anywhere, but there's no way I could replace someone at Carlow.

It's been a great freshmen and sophomore year so far. I can't wait to see how the next two years go.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
