5 Things You Miss When You Graduate From High School

I have learned to appreciate the great experiences I had in high school.

I am a firm believer that the saying, "Your time in high school will be the best four years of your life," is completely false. I mean, you're telling me that the best years of my life are going to be summed up with stressing over ACT scores and bad school lunches? However, although I couldn't wait to leave high school and start the next chapter of my life, I am realizing there are some aspects of high school that I definitely miss.

1. Homecoming/Prom

Okay, so even though I got to go to homecoming after I graduated year because my boyfriend is a senior in high school, I definitely miss the fun of homecoming week. Going back to the dance was definitely not as great as it would have been had I been able to participate in the excitement of homecoming week. We all will miss the great times of spending time and acting crazy with your best friends at homecoming and prom. Let's face it, we're probably never going to be able to experience dancing with our closest friends in formal attire again until our weddings.

2. Extracurricular Activities

Whether you were involved in sports, clubs, fine arts, etc. at your high school, there's a good chance you are realizing just how much you are missing doing what you love. I complained a lot about meetings for certain clubs that would interrupt my lunch time, but now I would love to go back and sit through another meeting! I was also involved in theatre and speech, and I have not performed since I graduated, so I have been struggling with missing doing what I love with my very best friends.

3. Spending Time With Your Best Friends

One of the hardest transitions when I got out of high school was realizing that I would not be able to spend as much time with my friends as I did in my high school years. From going out to eat for lunch, having bonfires in the fall, to talking about how much we hate the classes we're in, I wish I could go back to one of those moments just one more time. I love the new friends I have made at college, but there's nothing that could beat the bond you have with the people you grew up alongside.

4. Your Favorite Teacher(s)

We all had those teachers that made coming to school a little less miserable. There are several teachers at my high school that I either became close to or just thoroughly enjoyed learning in their class, and I have began to miss them quite a lot. Whether it be being in their class, talking to them about life, asking them for advice, etc., I learned I never really appreciated how great my favorite teachers really were.

5. Being Carefree

Now I know that we all had responsibilities in high school, but once you graduate, you get a taste of the real world. I used to have insane amounts of free time (whenever I didn't have rehearsal or a meeting) and now I feel like I have no time whatsoever. Whether it's from school work or from daily responsibilities, the days seem to be much shorter, and I find myself struggling to work against time.

High school was not the best time of my life by any means, but I have realized to appreciate my time there and to be grateful for the amazing experiences I had.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
