People go through tough times. I've never met a single person who hasn't gone through a rough patch. Obviously, people differ and the amount of pain a person goes through depends on the situation. However, we as people, have the ability to do everything in our power to try and make things just that little bit better. So lately, I've realized that some of my close friends have been going through some serious stuff and could use a pick me up, so I'm going to share with you some ideas of stuff to do to make your friends feel better when they're down!
1. Calling Them
Never underestimate just how good it can feel to get a call from someone you love. Now, I know that sometimes people won't want to talk and they might push you away, but it doesn't hurt to try. You don't have to talk about anything in particular, just say something to them. Sometimes the things we need the most in the world are that simple. Take your friend's mind off of whatever is bothering them by telling them about your day, asking them about theirs, or talking about whatever you think is best.
2. Visiting Them
If you and your friend don't live near each other, it might be a good idea to take a visit to go see them! I know that this isn't possible for everyone, but if you have access to a car or a bus, maybe it's time to take a weekend off and go visit your friend! Seeing someone in person, especially someone you haven't seen in awhile, will be good for you AND your friend!
3. Homemade Gift
This might seem simple to some people, but I think sometimes homemade gifts are even better than expensive ones. My personal favorites are handmade cards that I designed myself with handwritten notes inside. You can make anything--cards, playlists, mixtapes, anything! The more decorative and personal you make the gift, the better!
4. Movies/Night In -
This is one of my favorites. If I'm having a bad night, my friends know to come hang out and watch movies with me. We always watch my favorites and a few group favorites as well. Watch movies that are fun and lighthearted or watch your friend's favorite movies. That's guaranteed to make them feel a little bit better.
5. Positivity Jar
This is something I want to try out very soon. All you need is a mason jar, some paper, and scissors. My take on this jar is that I'll write out positive messages and stick them insides. When your friend is having a bad day, they can pull one out and read a special note from you!
