For those not in a quarter system for their colleges, winter vacations are coming to an end and people are gearing up for the start of their new semester/quarter. With all the commotion leading up to a new semester, there are definitely things to look forward to as you continue your education.

1. Wardrobes are changing.

With the start of every new semester, the season is different and that gives students opportunity to look into, and try out new wardrobe options. As we all know, the first two weeks of classes are the ones where we all dress to impress more so than the last two weeks. The shopping prior to a new semester is always exciting, finding new styles that accentuate your personality as you rock the runway known as your college campus.

2. Seeing old friends and meeting new ones.

As a college student, you are subject to so many different types of people across the campus. This being said, one great thing about a new semester is the chance to make new friends in the different classes you will be taking. They can come from any instance, whether they be the one person who makes a great joke on the first day, your newly assigned lab partner, or the person using a scooter to get across campus to their next class. Nonetheless, your new friends should be welcomed and your pre-existent friends should be introduced to achieve maximum friendship.

3. Acquiring new knowledge.

This may go without saying, but the whole point of college and further education is in fact the education. Learning from the classes you take, especially if they are for your intended major, is quite an exciting experience overall. There is just something about knowing more than you did before that makes you feel a little more empowered than when you first enrolled in a course.

4. Syllabus Week.

For any parents reading, just know that not everyone partakes in this tradition. That being said, syllabus week is highly anticipated by a number of students across the country. A time to unwind and really ease yourself into the beginning of a new semester. Hanging out with some good friends, and listening to some music while alcohol may be involved for those who are twenty-one or older. Overall, syllabus week is one that no one really forgets, as it is some final moments before the serious act of college beings anew.

5. The end of the semester.

I know what you are all thinking -- "how did we go from talking about all the fun experiences of a new semester, and end up talking about how finishing the semester is one of the best things than can happen?" Well to put it simply, finishing a semester of college and getting all the knowledge under your belt is such a refreshing feeling. It practically goes without saying that surviving the mayhem of midterms, final exams, and grade deciding projects is a reward all in itself. If anything, this may be the most anticipated part of the semester, next to finding out how your grade ended up when all is said and done.

Overall, every semester is full of things for each student to look forward to. No matter what they may be, good luck to all of those out there embarking on another semester of school.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
