5 Things I Learned My First Year of College

My first year of college is almost a month from being over. I have learned a lot about myself, my life, and what I want my future to be like. But these are probably some of the biggest things that I learned from over the year.

1.it’s okay to not have a declared major

Seriously. I came in COMPLETELY undecided. I am the most indecisive person ever so deciding what I wanted to major in as a high school senior, essentially, was so stressful. But the best thing I did for myself before I even set foot in my dorm room was just be undeclared, not business undeclared, but just no idea undeclared. It helped me narrow down all of my options from across the whole university and helped me focus on what I really wanted.

2. theres such a thing as too much free time

I'm not kidding. Yes I do spend time at the library and doing my homework but when I get that done and I watch some Netflix and spend some time on Twitter I just feel like I don't know what to do with my life. Honestly. I think it would be a good idea to join some type of student organization or greek life to fill up your other time.

3. the freshman 15 is REAL

yes. it is so real and i wish it wasn't. with all of the late night delivery options near campus and having the dining center available any time during the day and unlimited options inside the dining center. gaining weight is going to happen.

BUT

there is rec center on campus that should be available to all students and that definitely will help you combat the freshman 15 one pound at a time.

4. you will miss home cooked meals

a few months into school you'll start to get sick of all the options that you eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and you'll miss home cooked meals and the weekends you go home you'll always try to get the meal you want at least one night out of that weekend.

5. appreciate the little things

being away at college helps you appreciate your family and all the little things you took for granted being at home all the time that you don't get being at school. so be sure to appreciate it all while your'e still there.

Going away to college is probably the best thing I've done for myself and I wish everyone had the opportunity to do it and if you do please take that chance and you will learn so much about yourself and your life.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
