5 Things I Learned From Having a Little Sister

Having a little sister is the best and most rewarding thing in the world.

5 Things I Learned From Having a Little Sister
Olivia Thomas

Growing up with a little sister has been one heck of a ride. She has comforted me when I was crying over stupid boys who broke my heart, and she has been the source of many of my ugly laughs. She is the best little sister ever and she has taught me so much. I wish everyone could have a little sister as cool as mine. I am so glad God gave me you and that momma and daddy chose you to be my little sister.

1. You have a best friend for life.

My sister will always be my number one best friend. She is everything a best friend should be. She supports me through anything, and she always tells me whether I look good or not (and most of the time, it's not.) Since I have moved off to college, she still texts me to tell her about her day and ask how I am doing and if I'm okay.

2. She will become a mini-me, so you have to watch your actions and words.

My little sister has grown so much over the past 16 years, and she has become more and more like me. If you know me personally, you know this is actually a terrifying thought. She is just as sassy as I am, and she has even gotten to a point where she throws my sass right back at me. I couldn't be more proud. *insert small tear here*

3. One word: patience.

My little sister might be a little different from yours. She has some problems that she can't help. Because of this, she does things that get on my last nerve, (of course she doesn't mean it) Having my sweet baby as my little sister has taught me so much patience (but not enough, sadly). I still get irritated with her, and we still fight, but at the end of the day, I wouldn't trade her for the world.

4. She will teach you how to be protective.

Like I said before, my baby sister has some problems she can't help. People at her school think it's okay to pick on her. Let me tell you something, IT IS NOT OKAY AND IT WILL NEVER BE OKAY TO PICK ON SOMEONE, ESPECIALLY SOMEONE WITH DISABILITIES. I am the only person allowed to pick on her and tease her, and let me catch you teasing her. Nothing gets me fired up quicker than seeing my baby girl in tears because someone was mean to her. She tries to see the good in everyone and tries to be so kind. It breaks my heart when people take advantage of her or make fun of her. I think she is perfect the way she is.

5. She will teach you unconditional love.

I never thought that I could love someone as much as I love my sister. No matter how many times she used to hit herself and tell momma it was me, and no matter how many fights we get into, I will always love her. She is my person, and I wouldn't trade her for the whole world and everything in it. Nothing she ever does will ever make me love her less. I may not tell her all the time, but she knows I love her for her whole life. She will always be my baby sister.

I love my sweet girl and I honestly couldn't do life without her. She's always there to offer a comforting hug when I'm hurting, or a funny joke to lighten the mood. She's been there for me through the roughest parts of my life and through the best parts of my life, and she'll be there for every other moment as well. I love you for your whole life, squirt. Never change.

"God is within her, she will not fall." Psalm 46:5

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
