Having a best friend is one of the best possible gifts that life can give you. But having them pulled far away after always being there can be very hard to handle. College pulls us all in different directions and it can be hard when your best friend is states away. With the end of spring break drawing near for most, the goodbyes can leave you feeling broken hearted. Here are five things you know to be true if your best friend is away at school.

They are NEVER home long enough.

You can spend every single night together, binge watch all of "New Girl" and rival her mom on who she spends more time with, but it is never enough time. There are never enough hours in the day for you to fill them in on all of the things going on in life. You don’t ever stop talking when you are with them and even after they leave, you feel like there was more you had to tell them.

Skype has become your new best friend.

Every time either of you have a big date or a job interview you will find yourselves on Skype holding up different outfits and girl talking until the wee hours of the morning. You will feel bad when they keep their roommates up by talking to you but you know you just can’t stop talking. Skype is a wonderful thing, but it will never be the same as having them with you.

Ugly crying is your new norm.

Between teary goodbyes and warm welcome homes, tears are going to be shed. Ugly crying with your best friend has become your new normal. After dropping them off at the airport you feel like you have no tears left to cry. But when you get home and see their picture on your dresser you realize you were sadly mistaken and you find yourself ugly crying once again.

You scroll through pictures of you guys together just a little too often.

You’ll find yourself scrolling through pictures of you together like it was a bad breakup. People will wonder why you are sitting in class looking at your laptop like you just lost your new puppy.

You constantly relive the old memories in your head and wish you could just close your eyes and have them here again. Clicking through these pictures gives you hope that you can survive this next semester without them.

Nothing is better than having them home again.

You usually feel like you’re in "Dirty Dancing" when you see them walking towards baggage claim. There is nothing sweeter than a hug from your best friend when you haven’t seen them in months. Your heart will suddenly feel whole again and everything in life will feel like it is back in order. It is the absolute best feeling in the world and even though you know another goodbye will soon come, you don’t ever take a moment of it for granted.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
