5 Things You Know To Be True If You Travel As A Large Family

My familyLOVES to travel, in fact, I am writing this on vacation right now. In the past year, we have traveled by car to at least 10 new states, with much more to come in the coming months. As much as we love to travel, there is only one downside... we are a family of SEVEN, and as one would expect, packing seven people into car for a number of hours is going to have its fair share of problems, so here are five things that people travelling with large families will understand.

1. There's never enough room.

If you have a large family, you know the struggle of having luggage in every crevice of your car and no matter how little everyone packs, nor how big the car is there is never enough room.

2. Sneaking people into hotel rooms.

Now, this may just be my family's thing, but since my family is cheap and most hotel rooms only sleep 5, we usually have to sneak 1-2 people in. I cannot tell you the number of times I have pretended to be their "cousin" from such and such city, just to sleep in our hotel room.

3. The car is always messy.

You usually start your trip with the cleanest car in the world, but 3 hours and seven people later, your car starts looking like this, with no explanation.

4. Someone is always fighting.

Seven people + umpteen hours in the car.... need I explain more?

5. You never fail to make unforgettable memories.

Some of my best memories happened in the car traveling with my family. From seeing every side of the Pentagon 10+ times because we couldn't get off a roundabout, to "fart logs" (My sister is disgusting, okay)... I wouldn't change it for the world.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
