Happy Monday, New Jersey: Here Are 5 Things To Know On March 6th

Happy Monday, New Jerseyans (and fans of our great state)! Today is March 6th, 2017. It is time to enjoy another week - here are five things to know as you head out the door:

1. Jersey City Native's "Five-Finger Discount" Debuts on PBS

Helene Stapinkski, a former reporter of The Jersey Journal, award-winning author, and Jersey City native, will be in the spotlight tonight as the documentary based on her book "Five-Finger Discount" debuts on PBS.

The film will explore Stapinski's experiences in 1970s Jersey City and intimate encounters with political corruption and criminal action. The documentary is likely "one of the first to tell a story of ethnic politics and political corruption from a women's point of view," according to the film's official website. This is an educational watch for history buffs and just in time for Women's History Month. Tune in today, March 6th, at 9PM on PBS.

2. The 2017 NJSIAA State Wrestling Championships Were This Weekend

For those who have coworkers and classmates huge on sports - know that the NJSIAA, or New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association, hosted huge championship matches this weekend in Atlantic City. Seven state champions returned to defend their past titles, including Stephen Glasgow of Bound Brook, Eric Chakonis of Don Bosco Prep, and Joe Manchio of Seneca High School(go Seneca!). Head to NJ.com to watch videos from the event and check out if any winners are from your area.

3. Red Bank Restaurant Week Begins in North Jersey

It's time to dine - from today until March 16th, 25 restaurants will be offering discounts on their menus in beautiful Red Bank, New Jersey in honor of Red Bank Restaurant Week. Featured food will hail from countries all over the world, but many restaurants will also present classic American dining. Red Bank has long been called New Jersey's version of Greenwich Village; now may be the perfect time to check the town out yourself. Visit Red Bank's official site for more details - and go hungry.

4. New NJ Jobs Are On The Way

According to an article from Patch.com published last Friday, more than 4,000 new jobs are coming to New Jersey in the next few weeks. These positions come from companies like Home Depot, Amazon, and Broadridge Financial Solutions. This will be good for New Jersey's economy - I don't know about you, NJ, but I will take some time this week to brush up on interview skills.

5. NJ Weather This Week Looks To Be "Normal"

Is climate change real, New Jersey? Last month was the warmest February ever recorded in our state. Just last week the state experienced a huge flux in weather conditions. The forecast for the week ahead seems to be much more average. (Only time will tell).

Have plans for the weekend, already? I say don't make any! You're welcome to stay home and read more about New Jersey on my blog.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
