5 Things I'll Never Understand
Sherbet Lemon

The world is a confusing place. Let's just put that out there. We all know it's true. And with that, each person in this world has their own things that they are just genuinely curious about or are questioning in their lives. It could be super serious or it could even be simple questions like "why is the sky blue?" These certain situations in a person's life always makes me think of the "Tootsie Pop" commercial with the owl stating "the world may never know..." because it's true. We question these things because there are no answers to these questions and that's okay. Anyways, here are some things that I just do not understand in this world.

1. Why can't people just disagree and move on?

This isn't politically speaking, it's speaking in general. If you are having a conversation with someone, why isn't it possible that you disagree with each other but can continue the conversation normally and move on with your life? This is also for those on the internet. If someone makes a status on Facebook that you don't agree with, or someone in a YouTube video is wearing clothes and makeup that you don't think suits them, you do not have to make a comment on it. Just exit out of what's giving you an issue and move on.

2. Why are people so obsessed with electronics like their phones, laptops, etc.?

Listen. I get it, we are in the electronic and digital age. It's our clutch, and helps us not be bored from time to time. But really, these things are going to be around our whole lives, so why not put the phone down and get out and enjoy life? Is it really that hard to not answer a text? Is it really that hard to not watch Netflix for a few weeks? Like call up your friends and go do something to get your eyes off of the screens, you'll end up having less headaches too.

3. Why is healthy a "special skill"?

I love a good salad, whether it's full of veggies, fruits, or both, and eating junk in moderation, but here's the thing. Stop putting yourself on every-day-diets. Give yourself cheat days or even cheat weeks. There's a commonality on the West Coast of America that you must be so stick thin that you look like you're going to fall over, and that happens because the community promotes being "healthy". Everything is healthy in moderation and your body needs certain fats to survive, so allow yourself that Big Mac and McNugget meal, allow yourself that DQ Blizzard and then have a salad another day.

4. Why is sadness "trendy"?

I would like to blame Tumblr for this whole situation going on here. Depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses have been brought into the limelight and praised as some sort of "trend". Having to take anti-depressants or anti-anxiety meds, etc. is not trendy. It's an illness that those people cannot help and do not know how to fix. It's not easy, so don't praise people online for being diagnosed with depression, and even worse, don't say you have one of these mental illnesses when you haven't even seen a doctor for a proper diagnosis.

5. Why do people think that pineapple goes on pizza?

This is just for giggles and such, but honestly why do people think that this tastes good? If I am going to have fruit on my pizza, that best be a fruit pizza dessert. I want my pizza with the sauce, the cheese, and that's it. Sure put the Canadian bacon on it, but leave that pineapple in the can. Do not put it anywhere near my dough.

I hope that one day someone can answer these questions for me. I am tired of repeating these questions with no answer to come of. The world may be extremely confusing, and it's meant to be that way, but there are no reason why these questions cannot be answered. I can even answer the last one. Pineapple does NOT go on pizza.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
