5 Things I Hate About Winter

To some winter is the best part of the year but for others like me, winter is a living hell. I always wondered how people could genuinely love winter, but I know I hate it. Here are my five reasons for hating winter despite how beautiful it looks when it snows.

1. Everyone is always sick!

My biggest pet-peeve about winter is that everyone is always sick, and there is no escaping it. When you go to school and at least five people in your class are either sick with a cold, or recovering from the flu it becomes very annoying. Especially because you know that there is no escaping, and eventually it will get you. For some that might be okay, but for people like me who get sick times 1000 it is not okay at all. Maybe if everyone was not sick all the time I might appreciate winter more, but right now I am too busy dodging germs.

2. It is way too cold!

Coming from an island in the Caribbean where it never drops below 60 degrees makes it hard for me to appreciate the cold. I very much hate waking up in the morning cold, going about my day cold, and going to bed at night cold. I also hate having to bundle up, I think by myself I look thick, I do not need five layers of clothes making me look huge, and slowing me down. To me winter is the devil, and so is the cold. I hate the cold, and since mother nature wants to be bipolar, it really does not help at all. Yes, people, it is this serious. This has me freezing all the time even when I am bundled up.

3. The fact that it is winter most of the year!

Now I know a lot of people are going to argue this and say that it is only a couple of months in a literal sense, but to me, once it drops below 60 degrees it is winter. Since this usually starts in October and does not end until May, that means all that time is winter to me. That is most of the year when you really think about. To be honest I am not sure how most of you people survived this for most of your life. I am barely surviving now.

4. It is always so gray!

Winter really depresses me, to be honest. It always looks so gray and sad, and it makes me feel sad and sleepy all the time. Even when the sun is shining it looks so dead because the clouds are blocking it.

5. I get really pale!

I just hate not having my tan because I am always inside because it is too damn COLD!

My list honestly can go on and on about why I hate winter, but I thought I would just give you my top five reasons. If you love winter and can tolerate it, I salute you, because I know I cannot. Now excuse me while I go crawl under a blanket.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
