My best friend and I don't live near each other. We actually met thanks to a summer job, so when it isn't summer we live different lives in different states, only being able to communicate through text messages and phone calls. So, when a wonderful day comes where we are actually able to see each other in person, we both get incredibly excited. We have an entire school year's worth of memories and hugs and laughs to catch up on. Having a long distance best friend can be very hard at times, but it also is worth it. So here are five things that happen when you reunite with your long distance best friend.

1. You hug for a really long time.

That might sound weird to anyone who isn't a girl, but when two female best friends reunite there definitely tends to be a lot of hugging involved. My best friend and I literally walked around the room hugging for a while. It was an emotional moment for sure. When you're having a rough day, all you ever want is your best friend to be there to hug you. So you need to make up for all of those missed emotional days with long hugs.

2. You revert to your old ways.

After hugging it out for a while, my best friend and I got on the computer and began taking quizzes on BuzzFeed because that's what we always do together. It's a simple thing, one that doesn't hold a ton of sentiment or anything like that, but one that we both enjoy doing together. We also looked at food and wedding stuff on Pinterest, and caught up on all the gossip that we had neglected to talk about on the phone.

3. You begin retelling your inside jokes.

Everyone in the room gave us extremely weird looks when my best friend and I began running around the room pretending we were skies. Or when she pretended to stab me in the leg for no reason. Inside jokes are one of the amazing joys of friendship, and when you have a best friend you haven't seen in a very long time, the inside jokes tend to be even more enjoyable and even more funny than they were before.

4. You do have some differences.

It can be hard reuniting with a friend you haven't seen in a while. Things aren't exactly the same after spending nearly an entire year apart. However, these differences don't need to be seen as a bad thing, they actually can be celebrated. You both may be a little different than you were before, but that just means that you have a ton of different experiences that you can share with each other.

5. You love each other just as much as you did before.

They do say that distance makes the heart grow fonder. Thus, it makes sense that the love that you and your best friend have for each other hasn't changed. My best friend and I may be a little older now, and we may both look a little different, but we still love each other with all our hearts, and we value the time we get to spend together.
