5 Things I Miss About My All-Girls Catholic School

College makes you miss the simple things.

5 Things I Miss About My All-Girls Catholic School

Branching out and moving on has never been easy for anyone, but going from high school to college seems like a whole different world. I went from a small class of 121 girls to a huge class of 3,000-4,000 people. I went from knowing everyone to knowing maybe 10 people. College is an amazing experience, but I definitely miss my close-knit high school and everything that went with it.

1. Not caring what I look like.

An all girls school? Aka no makeup ever. A Catholic School? Aka a uniform. When I got to college I quickly realized how much I should have appreciated the uniforms while I had them. Getting up and trying to figure out whether to look cute or not is definitely the hardest decision of the day. I miss rolling out of bed and brushing my teeth and running a brush through my hair and being done. Makeup every morning isn't as fun as I thought it might be.

2. Meeting up in the bathroom before the next period.

We all did it. We would all meet in the bathroom to talk about the next dance or that new guy our friend was talking to. You always knew where your friends were in high school. College is a constant state of texting your friends "where are you?" They're rarely anywhere near you.

3. Lunch

A structured and scheduled time to eat is so missed in college, where it becomes very easy to forget to eat while everything else piles on you. All of the girls sitting at those round tables, gossiping about whatever we could. Having that scheduled time meant you could always eat with your friends, when again, in college it's a constant "where are you? wanna get food?"

4. All the traditions.

The best part of going to a small private school was all of the traditions. You never felt more a part of things than when you were looking around you and you and everyone else were wearing the same exact shade of purple and white. No one was ever as excited as they were on Holy Cross Day for the Sister Grace race, even though we all always knew who was going to win (the seniors).

5. My 120 sisters.

Even when I've made good friends and have a good friend group, I can't help but think back to all the times spent with the girls I went to high school with. That school brought the 121 of us so close that it really was like having 120 sisters. Always proud to be a LOTA.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
