5 Things I Don't Tell My Best Friend Enough

We talk every day, but there are some things I just forget to say

5 Things I Don't Tell My Best Friend Enough

Most people go through many friends throughout their life. I've been lucky enough to have one best friend who has been by my side (quite literally) since kindergarten. I'm incredibly grateful for her, but there are some things I just don't tell her enough.

1. Thank you.

Thanks for always being here for me. Through thick and thin, good times and bad times; you were constantly by my side. Even as we grew up, and went to different high schools, you never let our friendship fade. Seeing each other every day changed to hanging out every weekend, and that was just the way we liked it. Thanks for putting so much effort into staying close.

2. I miss you.

We text, Snapchat, FaceTime, Skype and Facebook Message every day, but that's all so different from actually being with you. This year was a big change for both of us. I started college, and you moved to a whole new state with your family. But we didn't let that stop our friendship from continuing to grow. I miss you so much, and can't wait to visit again soon.

3. I'm proud of you.

We've both been through a lot during this rollercoaster that is life. We've had our ups and downs, and sometimes the worst days felt like they would last forever. However, we never fought, and we were always there to pick each other back up. I know I can count on you, and I hope you know you can count on me. I'm proud of you for overcoming the bad days, and staying positive even in the worst of times. I admire you for it every day.

4. I'm sorry.

I'm sorry for all the times I failed to be a good friend. I know we both try our best, but I also know sometimes what I do is not enough. I'm sorry for sometimes being too busy to answer a text or come and visit. That doesn't mean I don't miss you more than anything, because I really do. I'll try to make it up to you.

5 I love you.

You've always been more than just my best friend; you've been my sister for as long as I can remember. I've always felt like a part of your family, and I'm incredibly grateful they all let me visit whenever possible. We're not just friends, we're family now and I love you like a sister. I hope we never lose that bond, because there's no one else I'd rather have by my side through everything.

These are only some of the things I should probably tell you much more often. Just know that I miss you, love you, and can't wait to see you soon. And that I look forward to every snapchat I get from you during class, even if it's just a weird selfie. Thanks for being you.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
