If one of your parents is a teacher, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to relate to at least one of the following things listed. If you're studying to become a teacher, then you can expect your future children to relate to this-- it'll still be around in ten years, so you can always show your future children what to expect with a parent who is a teacher.
1. Stories.
Endless, endless stories about the crazy, strange, or questionable things that their students did today. They aren't the type of stories that make you dread coming home to hear them, either -- they're always interesting and sometimes quite absurd. You're always learning what new, strange things students can come up with to do or say in a classroom. Then you quietly remind yourself that you'll never be able to be a teacher. Ever.
2. Random people you have never seen knowing who you are.
And, probably knowing too much about you, too. Whether you are the child of a high school teacher or a kindergarten teacher, you will have students of your parent saying hello to you, hugging you (if your parent is the teacher of younger grades), or glancing at you strangely. If you get that last one, you may wonder what story your parent told about you in class this time.
3. Sicknesses.
This one is especially common if your parent is a teacher in an elementary school, where germs and illnesses are running wild. Of course, your parent never gets sick because they have an immune system built like a wall. However, they will bring them home to you and you do not have the immune system they have. Not at all. Not even close.
4. Classroom clean-up.
Of course. You can always look forward to (sarcasm) the end of the day when you get to help your parent clean up whatever mess their students made that day and left for you to clean, and its oh-so-kind of them. It gives you a slightly new appreciation for keeping your area at school clean. Sometimes.
5. You'll personally know all the other teachers whether or not you have them as your own teacher.
So, if your parent happens to work in the same school that you attend, this can be pretty awesome for you if you formed a friendship with some of the teachers. However, it can also be totally not awesome when the teacher knows your parent (and you) exceptionally well and you get in trouble. That is always a slightly awkward meeting between you, your parent, and the principal whom you also know very well (again, a bonus if you treat it well).
All in all, having a teacher as a parent is pretty cool. You definitely get an inside look at what your own teachers have to deal with on a daily basis, and sometimes that opens your eyes to just how seriously difficult students can be sometimes. So, not only does it give you a slightly new appreciation for your own teachers, but it gives you a new appreciation for your parent -- they have to deal with you and all of their students. It's kind of like having a super hero as a parent, don't you think?
