5 Things Everyone Experiences While Dorm Shopping

“Oh, that’s not a bad price!"

I move into my freshman dorm room in 40 days, so of course, I just had to go dorm shopping. It was so much fun! Especially when I was able to go with my awesome roomie! As an incoming college freshman, I wanted to make sure that I bought everything I would possibly need. Believe me, I definitely did that! After the four to five hours my roommate and I spent shopping, I realized that I not only spent a ton of money, but I also had some general reactions that I feel many new college students can relate to. So here is some insight on how my dorm shopping experience went.

1."Oh my gosh, I love it!"

This is how I felt the majority of the time while dorm shopping. Whether it was the throw blanket that was so soft, or the stuffed Olaf that I actually ended up getting, I definitely had my share of these moments. I “loved” so many different things, and it was probably my most common phrase of the day.

2. “…But I don’t need it…”

These moments were continuous as well. Sorry, soft throw blanket, but my step-mom already bought me one prior to this trip. I had to wrap my mind around the idea that I did not need everything in the store, mainly because I will be living in a room the size of a jail cell and will be sharing it with another person.

3. “Oh, that’s not a bad price!"

Surprisingly, most of the things I bought were not badly priced. Especially at Bed Bath and Beyond, and you can ask my roommate how much stuff I bought there! I am very glad that most stores understand that I will be a broke college kid in 40 days.

4. *heart breaks* and *cries inside*

I’m going to lump these two reactions together mainly because they happened right after each other. Now I only got this feeling three times, so can you guess how many stores I went to? That’s right! Three! Oh, the irony, since number three is about items being decently priced. These emotions were the saddest of the entire day. I only felt this way right after each cashier told me how much I owed them and while swiping my card.

Note: Here’s a shout out to the cashier at Bed Bath and Beyond who did not enjoy my little attempt to be funny, after I replied to his question, “How is your day?” by saying, “Great until I see how much I owe you.”

5. *sigh of relief*

I only felt this way after I was done shopping. Even though there are numerous reasons why I sighed, the main reason was because a huge task on my college checklist had been completed. Before I went shopping, I only had my bedding and decorations, so I was starting to get nervous about not having a lot of the things I needed for college. Finishing my dorm room shopping also means that I’m one step closer to moving into my new home and starting a new part of my life, which is coming whether I am ready or not. Here’s to college, new opportunities and my recovering bank account!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
