"Get Involved!" I saw that plastered all over the damn campus when I first got here, so what did I do? Yup, I got involved! I did just as I was told and because of it, I'm having the greatest college experience ever. Of course, it is all fun and games until getting involved with multiple organizations and clubs begins to take over your life. Being friends with people that are also over involved, you all understand each other at a deeper level and it's just a great connection. So what is it that we constantly encounter?
1. Calendars = Bible
We all have one...or 3 but it's because we're busy at all times of the day. We have meetings, class, events, etc. everyday for multiple things and finding "free" time is sometimes a struggle.
2. Names Get Confusing!
Sometimes we have so much going on in our head, that we forget names. You go through a whole list of names before finally getting it right.
3. Scheduling is sometimes a major issue.
Do I want to go to my fraternities social event or do I want to wake up early and give a tour? Which org. am I hanging out with this weekend?
4. Collision!
Everything collides and sometimes its good, sometimes it's bad. It's great when its a social event and all your organizations are there. Its bad when your thoughts collide because you can't remember if your idea was for your fraternity or if it was for your community service org. Either way, it always works out.
5. You start to evenly distribute how much time you spend with each organization.
One day you'll study with your fraternity bros another with your ambassadors but no matter what you do you have to make sure the time spent with each is equal so that you don't become "fake."Â
As much as we sometimes hate the stress that comes with being over involved, we also love it. Being able to have different types of people you connect well with around you at all times is such a great feeling. You learn new things from each person, and form great and long lasting friendships. What is even better is that you can take all the skills learned from each organization and apply them in the real post-grad life. You'll have the right tools to lead you to your goals and that will make you a successful person in life.
