As I was sitting down to brainstorm article ideas, the fire alarm went off. We've all felt the sinking feeling of that high-pitch death sound. Literally, why is it so loud? If you also go college on the east coast, you know that forcibly removing students from the comfort of their dorms in the middle of winter is a crime. For now, let's suspend our cries of injustice and focus on logical solutions to make fire drills more tolerable. Here are 5 things to do during a fire:
1. Get Food
Eating is the single best time-wasting past time. If you left all your stuff in your room, grab a few friends and go to the local campus restaurant. The drill will be overbore you know it!
2. Hide Your Substances
If you choose to partake, make sure to hide anything that can get you in trouble. If your school is like mine, fire drills are usually an excuse for RA's to search rooms. Don't let them find anything!
3. Go for a Walk
If you've been cooped up in the room all day, a fire drill might be the perfect motivation to get you out of bed and into the fresh air.
4. Just Kinda Stay There
Sometimes its just not worth it. If you are in the middle of taking a shower or just don't want to budge, just stay put. Chances are people will be checking the floors to make sure everyone has exited the building, so hide in the shower or stand on a toilet in the bathroom stall. If you're in your room, hide under the bed. Of course, make sure you know it is actually a drill!
5. Make friends
The feelings that come from standing outside in the cold while your building gets evacuated is the perfect way to bond with people. Meet a few people outside your building, tell them how pissed you are, and get a coffee. Who knows, maybe you just found a lifelong friend.
