When you're in college, it feels like the outside world is so far from you. You are constantly stuck in an atmosphere where you are basically forced to be an adult, which is not bad at all.

You are introduced to many new things and experience a freedom that you have never experienced before. It's your first time actually being on your own and not having someone there to remind you of the things you need to get done. And in a way, it's a breath of fresh air to finally not have to follow someone else's rule all the time.

However, being at college does open your eyes and make you realize how much you probably took advantage of when you were living at home. Here are the 5 things colleges students miss the most when they're at school:

1. Home Cooked Meals

Although there are a lot of food places on campus that sound so good to eat at the moment, you soon realize that they cost money. So reverting to the dining hall is really your only option, and 99% of the time, the food tastes like its been sitting out there for weeks straight, which it probably has. Home cooked meals are what you crave most when you're missing home.

2. Help With The Laundry

Laundry, the most minuscule task is the biggest burden of your day. It takes up so much time because you have to sit around and wait for it to be done. And the worst part is putting it away. At home, you probably took for granted the clean clothes that would magically appear in your room once or twice a week.

3. Sleep, In General

Until you finally get to sleep home for once, you don't realize how messed up your sleep schedule is. You used to find yourself up until 4 am doing homework or just doing nothing, but once your head hits that pillow in your own bed in your own room, you're out like a light, and it has never felt so good before.

4. Showering Without Shoes On

If you go to a school where your dorm has a communal bathroom, you understand the pain and annoyance it is to shower with shoes on. Just the thought of other people, who are complete strangers, showering in the same stall as you has definitely creeped you out a few times. Sometimes, you just want to be in your own bathroom, WITHOUT SHOWER SHOES, and take a relaxing shower without people waiting for you to get out.

5. Your Family/Friends

Going to college means you are finally mature enough to leave your hometown and start a life of your own. However, sometime you just need to be home with the people you are most comfortable around, and it's not a bad thing. Your family and friends from home are always so excited to see you and hear all about your life, and of course you are curious about there's too. It's a warm feeling seeing them after a while, and sometimes you just need them to be with you.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
