The start of a new semester can be intimidating and stressful. However, there are many small luxuries that make you feel just a little bit better about jumping back into classes.

1. Organization

Although having to organize your whole life can be an extreme nuisance at times there is no way you can deny the satisfaction you feel when you are done. Syllabi are full of dates and upcoming projects that sure need some sorting out. From filling out your calendar with deadlines to labeling your folders and notebooks, all the measures you take to stay organized are worth the while. For some people the organization may only last for that week, but some actual enjoy the act of getting their life together!

2. Meeting Professors

Odds are students know almost everything about their new professors before they even step foot in class thanks to sites like ratemyproffesor.com. Most professors get mixed reviews, based on the type of students writing the reviews, but you can come to a broad assumption on how your semester is going to go in just a few short minutes. Professors can be some of the most influential people in a student’s college career so it is very exciting to meet the people that are suppose to guide you in your education!

3. Reorganizing The Doom Room

Syllabus week marks the beginning of a new semester and for some people can be a fresh new start. Some people may find themselves meeting their new roommates and moving into a different room. Regardless, most things probably got taken home from your dorm room so now is the perfect time to try out that new layout you have been thinking about over winter break or maybe get a change in scenery and try out the bottom bunk.

4. Seeing All Your Friends

Spending practically everyday with your best friends for three months and then not seeing them at all gives student major friend withdrawals so syllabus week means getting to see them again after a long month away. You are probably dying to know how their break went and very ready to start up your fun college adventures again.

5. Meeting New Classmates

New classes means new people and new people means more potential friends. Meeting new people, especially in college, are the greatest. You are surrounded by people going through all the same pain and joys as you so connecting with people in your classes is super fun and important. Take a chance and sit with someone new and start up a conversation. At least you could meet someone to help you with problems in class or get notes from and at best you could meet a new best friend!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
