Thanksgiving is a time to appreciate the things in life that you are thankful for. We all get together with loved ones, sometimes with some people that you may not have seen in a while, and catch up. If you are in college Thanksgiving is the first real break of the year. During this time however, college students often feel interrogated during their break. Thanksgiving break suddenly becomes 20 questions. The most common things said/ asked to a college kid are as follows.
"How's school going honey?"
Now don't let this fool you, this is the bait that they use to get you into the college interrogation. It's a simple question but it's only guaranteed to lead to more questions. But if you must accept the challenge, stay strong my friend you're in for a long ride.
"Are your classes hard?"
Listen Aunt Carol, I know this is your sly way of asking am I doing well in school, I'm not falling for that. Stay strong my friends just nod and smile and give them the answer they want to hear. I mean it's better than telling them you pulled an all nighter and drank five red bulls.
"Do you plan on finding an internship?"
Clearly all of your relatives have been out of the game for a long time. They seem to think internships and job opportunities fall out of thin air. In reality you're just hoping someone will hire you period, for any job, you just need money.
"What do you do for fun on the weekends?"
No explanation needed.
"Are you eating okay?" / "Is the food there good?"
Uhh yes grandma, in fact yesterday I had ramen noodles and a donut, and the day before I had some left over pizza from a week ago!
No matter what questions come your way, remember to stay strong and give them the answer that they want to hear. Avoid awkward situations like "Are you seeing anyone" or "Do you go to parties" because quite frankly that is not dinner talk. It's one day of the year where you get to see family that you may not have seen in a long time so try to make the best of it!
