Happy April to all! As 2017 continues to progress, I think it's high time to finally start correcting some of this atrocious behavior. You would think that since it has been so long since the abolition of slavery in these United States, people of color would start to move away from the slave mentality and closed mindedness that were forced upon them during that time. While I love all people of color, I am sick of these tired acts of heresy. Let's dig into this list so we can fix this madness.

5. Light-skin versus Dark-skin isn't a thing.

Dear black people, do you really think that the amount of melanin in your skin makes you any different from the other members of your race? The only answer is no. It doesn't make you act any specific way, nor does it make you any more or less of a person than anyone else. It is damaging. Why are we applying prejudice to our own group of people when the whole world is doing a great job of that for us?

4. Just because someone is black, doesn't mean they are right.

Your blackness does not give you more creditability. If I had to choose between a black doctor with 0 years of training and a white doctor with 0 years of training to operate on my brain, guess who I'm choosing. A new hospital. I don't care what it is, If I cant trust your qualifications, I am not choosing you. If you say the moon is red and you want me to side with you for the sole reason being because you and I share the same skin tone, you just might be dumb.

3. Blackness cannot be measured by preference.

Blackness has nothing to do with what food I like, music I listen to, or even how I choose to dress. Again, we are allowing ourselves to tear down our own community based on stereotypical nonsense.

2. Interracial dating is ok, and its not limited to two of the many races.

Interracial dating is fine. What is not fine is dating someone because of the race they belong to, or refusing to respect someone because of the race they belong to. Stop applying stereotypes to everything. All Black women are not angry, all Latina women are not crazy, and all White women are not submissive. Quit hating on love and let it just be.

1. No matter what you say, Gay people will be gay.

So many people are worried about what happens in someone else's bedroom more than they are their own. There is absolutely nothing dangerous about a gay person. We need to let people be themselves and learn to support one another.

BONUS: Mental Illness is not a sin. Actually, a lot of people suffer from it.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
