Too often I have been told, "you need to get married and have kids." Well, as much as I would love to get married and have kids, I must admit being single has its perks.
One such perk is being able to do things I wouldn't normally have the time, money, energy, or freedom to do if I were married or had kids. Here is a list of 5 things I can do because I am single.
5. Stay up all night and sleep all day.
It might not seem like anything huge or life changing, but believe me, being able to get as much sleep as you want is definitely a single person's blessing.
4. Go out with friends as much as I want.
SO cliche, I know. Doesn't change the fact that I can happily spend my time with friends without worrying about getting home to the significant other or kids.
3. Take impromptu road trips.
Ah, the freedom to just up and go is priceless, especially when life gets to be too much and a break is sorely needed.
2. Meet new people.
I know you're probably thinking "uh hello, you don't have to be single to meet new people", and you'd be right. However, the opportunities to meet new people and network become so much broader when you aren't tied down to one place, which let's face it, is what getting married and having kids does (it's called "settling down" for a reason).
1. Traveling the world.
Okay, once again you can totally do this with a significant other and kids; except, it wouldn't be the same experience. How you explore a place often depends on who you are there with.
You can't exactly spend all day wandering the marketplaces if you have kids complaining about being tired and wanting to go home, or checking out the nightlife because, well, having kids means you have no night life.
So, to all my singles out there, enjoy your singleness and live it up the way only single people can: freely and (mostly) worry free.
