Some tall girls dread going out into public and some love it. I know that as soon as I leave my house I want to go back home. But being tall was a gift and we’re meant to use it.
1. “How’s the weather up there?”
Okay. I get we’re tall, but the weather two feet above you is the same as the weather right next to you, maybe a little warmer. All tall people hate that question. It's that dreaded question asked by all people who are jealous that we’re 5' 10" and their 5' 2".
2. “Where do you get your height from?”
Listen: if I knew I would tell you, but my family is on the shorter side of the tall spectrum. If anything I get it from my grandparents, but for some, their parents are like 6' 5". Growing up in a family like that is something they're used to, so don’t be rash about them being tall.
3. “Can you reach that for me?”
Everyone that is over 5' 9" has had someone ask them that. My favorite is when it's little old ladies at the store who can’t reach the top shelf. I sort of have a soft spot for them. My grandmother happens to be 5' 1" so I know what it's like to go to the store with her just to get things off the top shelf.
4. Finding pants that actually fit.
I don’t know about you, but finding any kind of pants that will fit my long legs is a disaster. Forget finding jeans in my size-- they’re either too short or too big in the waist. The only pants I can find that will fit me are men’s sweatpants, -- not complaining because they’re really comfortable, but still annoying-- and shorts; They either look like boy's basketball shorts or they’re so short everyone can see your butt.
5. Boys.
That’s all that needs to be said. We know exactly what that means, most boys that we like are too short for us. It sucks. Our entire life we’re told, “they’ll catch up,” and they never do. I finally found a boy who was taller then me and he turned out to be a total jerk. Boys don’t get it. They date people shorter than them. Some guys like taller women, but either way it's hard.
Listen. I know it sucks, but there are benefits. I can see over almost everything-- when I lose my mom in a store I can look over the shelves and see her. When I need to fix a lightbulb or hang a picture, I can because I was blessed with long legs, long arms and a really long torso. I am able to do things most girls can’t and I actually get complimented on my height all the time. And honestly, I’m not even that tall for a girl.
