5 Things About Living With Roommates

Living with roommates may be fun but it also has its disadvantages.

Most young adults in college or right out of high school experience roommates at least once. This is my take on living with roommates.

1. Your stuff is their stuff too.

No matter what you put your name on or what you own, your roommates are going to use it too. If you have ever lived with roommates you know exactly what I am talking about. You leave to go out of town and your favorite shirt is not in the same spot you left it and may have an extra stain or two.

2. It's never their turn to buy groceries.

Buying groceries can cause some problems with roommates, especially if you take turns buying groceries for the week. Whoever buys groceries will always complain about how much food you eat and will always pull the “I bought that, don’t eat it” card when you start to eat food they bought. You better believe whenever you buy groceries, there will be a feast with all the food you bought.

3. You will always fight over parking.

Parking is a big deal sometimes, especially when you have only room for one vehicle to go in the garage. It doesn’t matter if your vehicle is the newest popular sports car on the market and theirs is a junker that has been pieced together and barely running, they will want theirs in the garage. And we all know that there is always that one that blocks you in, especially when you are running late.

4. You don't plan on staying up late but you do.

You never plan on staying up late when you have to get up early. But that always ends up being the case when your roommates bring everyone and the dog over to have a get-together. “Its only a few people, they won’t be too loud” Then it ends up turning into an all-night house party. It's like they do it on purpose to make sure you're late or extremely tired, running off energy drinks and a few hours of sleep.

5. You will disagree on almost anything to get on each other’s nerves.

Spending too much time with each other will drive you crazy. It doesn’t matter if you are right or wrong, you will stand your ground, fight tooth and nail just to disagree and aggravate each other just because you can. If you're in the same boat I am in your roommates may be your coworkers, so you get to see them more than you want

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
