I’ve been involved in FSL for about two years now. Since joining my sorority at the beginning of my freshman year I have had incredible experiences that I wouldn't have had if I were not a part of FSL. With recruitment right around the corner, I decided to put together a little list of the best things about Greek Life here at Missouri State.
1. The Bond
The bond I share with my sisters is unlike anything else I’ve experienced. I know I can trust them to be there for me when I need them and to support me through everything. My sisterhood is where I have found my best friends and role models. I have met so many women who only want the best for me and will do whatever they can to help me.
2. Homecoming
Homecoming is the best week of the fall semester where the entire school comes together in friendly competition. While everyone can participate in Homecoming, nobody goes as hard as FSL. Homecoming is when you get to watch your hard work pay off and you get to have fun. The day of Homecoming is hands down one of the best days of the year. As a member of the FSL community, you are able to get to know your pairings and have something to celebrate even if the football team loses.
3. Greek Week
While Homecoming is the fall’s main event, Greek Week dominates the spring semester. Greek Week is similar to Homecoming except it is exclusive to FSL and, of course, there’s no football game. Members of FSL spend all semester planning and preparing for Greek Week. The highlight of Greek Week is Greek Jam. This is the finale of Greek Week. Greek Jam is a dance competition. Members of FSL spend all semester practicing for Greek Jam so the dances are always incredible.
4. Meeting New People
As a member of FSL you are constantly getting to meet tons of new people. Your chapter gets new members every year, which allows you to get to know new people who share common interests as you. You also will get plenty of time to get to meet other members of the FSL community through philanthropy events, Homecoming and Greek Week.
5. Service
Philanthropy is one of the most important parts of being involved in Greek Life. As a whole, undergraduate Greeks raise approximately $7 million per year for various charities. By joining my sorority, I realized just how important it is to give back to the community. My chapter has encouraged me to get involved through all the events we plan to help our philanthropy. Throughout the year my chapter hosts fundraising events for the local domestic violence shelter, we also have donation drives every month and host Healthy Relationships Week, where we help educate people on the warning signs of abusive relationships.
