We all have those days in which we feel stressed and just exhausted with life. With the holidays right around the corner, the end of the semester approaching, or whatever you may be on the verge of ripping your hair out over, it's important to take a breather and spend sometime with yourself. Self-therapy is extremely crucial to personal sanity, and it's always a blessing to take a break from real-life to do things for yourself. Listed down below are a few activities that I know will never fail to improve your mood, and will keep you stress-free and sane.
1. Exercise
I know. It can be difficult to find motivation to go out to the gym or for a run, or sometimes you can never find the time. However, I've noticed that a good work-out never fails to improve anyone's mood. If you're one of those people that just doesn't have time, try to make time. Working up a good sweat truly is therapeutic, and your body will thank you later.
2. Coloring
You may feel like a 5-year-old while using colored pencils and coloring in pictures in a coloring book, but it will help calm your thoughts and keep your mind off whatever's bothering you. Put in some headphones and listen to your favorite songs while making a picture pop with color and you're set to be stress-free.
3. Writing
Write out your feelings into a notebook or a blank document on your laptop. It doesn't matter what you write, because no one has to read it if you don't want them to. Just write out everything you feel; it doesn't have to be perfect. Include as much poor grammar and spelling as you please, because the purpose isn't to write a perfect paper. Just spill every thought onto your notebook or Word document, and I guarantee you'll feel relieved of negative energy afterwards.
4. Music
Put in your headphones, or play it out loud, and lay down in your bed. Just take a few minutes to do nothing except listen to the music. If you can play an instrument, play a few songs. This helps to calm your mind and body, and afterwards you'll feel rejuvenated and ready to take on the rest of the day.
5. Â Food
Trust me, it won't kill you to eat a cookie every now and then. Although I may be a little bit of a hypocrite for saying that considering I try to eat as healthy as I can, I've noticed that if I allow myself some junk food every now and then, I become a lot more sane and relaxed. Feeling stressed? Indulge in your favorite unhealthy snack, because it's guaranteed to make you feel better.
