5 Things I Never Thanked My Older Sibling For

Despite the fights and through all the laughs, thank you for being the best older sibling.

Your siblings know you better than anyone else. They’ve witnessed your most embarrassing tantrums and seen you at your absolute worst moments, but they’ve also shared your most cherished childhood memories and been the reason behind so many of them. Siblings are the friends that you don’t get to choose but could never live without, and having an older sibling by your side made growing up all the more fun. Here are five things you should have thanked your older sibling for, but never did.

1. Taking The Blame

Even if I was the one to start our arguments or if it was my idea to be mischievous in some way, you somehow ended up with the blame at least 80 percent of the time. Thank you for accepting the fact that being the older sibling came with this responsibility, and not telling Mom and Dad when it was actually my fault.

2. Letting Me Win

I still blame Mario Kart for igniting the road rage that I continue to struggle with today (sorry for throwing your Nintendo controllers across the room when I got last place). However, when I was frustrated with my inability to keep up, whether we were playing video games or racing each other to the other side of the park, you always made sure to give me a victory or two in order to boost my confidence.

3. Driving Me Around

Being the first sibling to get a driver’s license was cool until you were forced to drive me to practice, pick me up from school and take me to and from my friends’ houses everyday. Thank you for being my taxi service free of charge, and accepting that I will probably never pay you back for all the gas you wasted driving me around.

4. Looking Out For Me

There is no one more protective than an older sibling. Whether I was hurt, heart broken or in trouble, you were always there to ask, “Who do I need to beat up?” I could always count on you for comfort when I needed it most, and know that I still can.

5. Being My Number One Friend

No matter how much we fought and got on each other’s nerves when we were kids, you were still my favorite person to hang out with. My childhood would have been filled with a lot less laughter and fun if it weren’t for you, so thank you for being my best friend and role model through it all. I love you.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
