WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.
I am someone who doesn't like to cry during a comedy unless I laugh so hard that I cry. That being said, there are 5 moments in television comedy history that I felt good about crying about because they were so touching. These are the 5 shows I recommend if you want to have a good laugh and maybe a good cry.
While I believe that all 5 of these shows are worth watching in full, I suggested a couple episodes of each to watch if you really need a good laugh/cry.
The Office
The main reason why The Office is such a tear jerker is because of the relationship between Jim and Pam. The way that Jim talks about Pam and their true chemistry is part of what made the show so amazing. They are relationship goals to the max. Their relationship made me believe in love again so if you need a reminder that love exists, watch this show.
Suggested episodes: "Niagara, Parts 1 and 2," Season 6, Episodes 4 and 5.
Boy Meets World
Boy Meets World is a '90s sitcom that revolves around the world of Cory Matthews as he grows up and becomes an adult. The show lasted 7 seasons and followed Cory from middle school through college. The show tackles a lot of tough themes that comes with a lot of coming-of-age stories and also discusses the realities of young love and true love. If the series finale of this show doesn't make you cry, I don't know what will.
Suggested episodes: "A Long Walk to Pittsburg, Parts 1 and 2," Season 4, Episodes 16 and 17.
Parks and Recreation
Parks and Recreation is one of the shows that made me laugh so hard I cried. It also made me cry at some points because of how touching the show is. This show is brilliant because not only will it make you laugh so hard your stomach hurts, it will warm your cold heart so much that you may shed a tear. Or a few tears. No judgement.
Suggested episodes: "Smallest Park," Season 4, Episode 8, and "Leslie and Ben," Season 5, Episode 14.
Modern Family
Modern Family is an award-winning mockumentary that is centered around one big crazy family. It is also one of the only shows on this list that is still on today. While the show is hilarious, it tackles issues that come up in families like divorce, death, and children growing up. The way it discusses these topics is what has made the show so charming and successful.
Suggested episodes: "The Wedding Parts 1 and 2," Season 5, Episodes 23 and 24.
New Girl
New Girl is a quirky comedy that is basically about a girl living in a loft with three other men. Sound simple? It isn't. The four of them stumble their way through adulthood but there is one thing that is clear: they will always have each other. While the show may seem annoying to some because of its wacky humor, the emotional moments is what really make the show worth it.
Suggested episodes: "Birthday," Season 3, Episode 13, and "Clean Break," Season 4, Episode 22.
