KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- For the Kansas City Chiefs' defense, Sunday's game was one for the ages.
The Chiefs (2-1) bounced back after last week's loss with a 24-3 victory over the New York Jets (1-2) at home. The Chiefs' defense forced eight turnovers Sunday and intercepted Jets' quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick six times.
Alex Smith paced the Kansas City offense with 237 passing yards and one touchdown, which was caught by tight end Travis Kelce. Spencer Ware added 75 rushing yards on the ground for the Chiefs in a balanced offensive attack that saw the Chiefs pass the ball 33 times and run the ball 27 times.
Here's five takeaways from the Chiefs' dominating victory:
1. Sunday was BY FAR the Chiefs' best game on defense.
The Chiefs forced two fumbles and intercepted Jets' quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick SIX times. Eric Berry, Marcus Peters, Derrick Johnson and Daniel Sorenson each tallied interceptions.
Eric Berry had the other interception for the Chiefs. Berry's counterpart at safety, Ron Parker, had a solid day in the secondary as well. Steve Nelson also showed his toughness in the secondary, deflecting numerous passes from Fitzpatrick.
From the first drive for New York, the secondary was all over the Jets' wide receivers. Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker rarely became a factor for Fitzpatrick. Although Phillip Gaines committed a couple pass interference penalties, the defense was pretty sound throughout the duration of the game.
2. This is the Alex Smith the Chiefs missed in Week 2.
Alex Smith didn't go crazy behind center Sunday. He completed numerous short, quick passes to his wide receivers. He completed 25 of his 33 passes on the day, utilizing numerous receivers. Kelce was Smith's favorite target on the day, hauling in six receptions for 89 yards, along with the lone passing touchdown on the day for Kansas City.
3. Where has Albert Wilson gone?
In a game that featured very few negatives for the Chiefs, it's tough not to wonder: What has happened to Albert Wilson so far in 2016?
Wilson was supposed to be the second wide receiver in line to Jeremy Maclin for Smith. Wilson had an encouraging season in 2015 with 451 receiving yards, but he has been nowhere to be found in 2016. So far this year, Wilson has registered just one reception. I don't think many would be surprised if De'Anthony Thomas got a chance to play soon instead of Wilson.
4. Tyreek Hill is slowly becoming an offensive weapon.
By now, many Chiefs fans are aware of the speed that Tyreek Hill brings on offense. He's been a weapon in the kick return game and is constantly a threat to take a ball to the house for a touchdown.
Even though Hill only had three receptions Sunday, his speed showed on each one. Hill caught a pass over the middle of the field from Smith, put a spin move on, and quickly accelerated up field for additional yardage. Expect Smith to take more advantage of Hill as the season progresses and he gets more comfortable with the rookie out of West Alabama.
5. Spencer Ware did his job, again.
While Jamaal Charles continues to make his way back from a torn ACL in 2015, Spencer Ware has been a solid replacement for Kansas City in 2016. He's a powerful running back with the ability to break big runs.
Charles is expected to be back soon, maybe even Sunday night in Pittsburgh. If that's the case, then Ware will likely still be a factor in the running game, as the Chiefs will want to limit the workload of Charles when he returns.
