Here at the University of Indianapolis, we are about a week away from summer break. And while most people are pretty focused on finals and getting ready for those tests. I am thinking of all the things that are going to be happening this summer. I just can't help it; the promise of warm days and no school work is just too strong right now. Speaking of, here are 5 things most college students are going to look forward to this summer.
1. Resetting Your Sleep Schedule
I know for me that during the school year my sleep schedule is not the best. Due to all the work that is required for classes in college, you spend a lot of late nights working on homework or projects. And that can really mess with your daily sleep schedule. Catching up on sleep is my favorite part of the summer as you get back into that regular routine.
2. Part Time Jobs and Internships
Now this one may be just me, but I love the opportunities I get to work during the summer. Moving into my later years of college my summers are now becoming more about furthering my career. And much less about just having a job for financial reasons. You also get to meet so many awesome people through summer jobs that you wouldn't always have the opportunity to do so during the regular school year. And then, of course, there is also the added benefit of making some money for the following school year as well.
3. The Weather
Need I say more? Summer is my favorite time of year because of the weather it brings. It's sunny and warm out most of the time. And when it's not, you get the best thunderstorms during the summer. I mean who doesn't like seeing huge bolts of lightning flash across the sky while sitting inside dry from the rain? Nature really comes alive during the summer. This also allows for a lot of awesome adventure opportunities and possibilities. So jumping off that...
4. Outdoor Activities!
Summer is the best time to spend outdoors. I know growing up as a kid my family always spent the great summer months camping. As it was the perfect time to hike the trails at Turkey Run. Or climb the sand dunes at the Indiana Dunes National Lake Shore. Besides camping, there are all sorts of other outdoor activities to do during the summer. You can go to a park and enjoy your local environment that you may not always think to get out and see. There's also all the water related activities to take advantage of during the summer. Going to the beach, hanging out on a boat, tubing, visiting a water park. The possibilities are almost endless.
5. No School
The best part of the summer is always that you have no school. Having the 3 to 4-month break to recharge is incredibly essential for all college students. We do so much during the year that having some time off feels like a breath of fresh air. It's also nice not to have to write papers or do menial worksheets as well.
There you have it, five things to be excited about this summer. Hang in there guys, you only have a week or two more left.
