Ah, summer. It's the most coveted break and time of any college student's year. School is no longer in session, the days grow longer, and the days get warmer. Even though we all typically return to our jobs and the money flow becomes a bit steadier, we are still scrounging to save every last dollar to pay for the next academic year, along with concerts and festivals. I know that when summer comes around, I want to do everything that I possibly can in the short three months. I want to go out to parties, adventures, and amusement parks, but alcohol and adventures can get expensive. So, with that being said, I have come up with five things to do this summer that won't break the bank.
1. Go Hiking.
When I used to hear the word "hiking," I used to think that hiking meant climbing a mountain. Hiking does not have to be expensive. For the most part, I live in Michigan during the year, and this state has an abundance of trails and state parks. Walking the trails is one of the most fun and relaxing ways to catch some rays, along with bonding with friends and getting some exercise too.
2. Go On A Picnic.
Picnics are such a lost art, but boy are they fun! I know that summer is the time where I want to go the local restaurants and breweries, sit outside, and enjoy a meal with friends and family. However, going out to eat can get so expensive. With picnics, you can tailor your meals to your preferences, it won't break the bank, and it won't break your diet.
3. Hammocking.
"Hammocking" is a huge thing with my friends. Most of my friends already own transportable hammocks and will take them to beautiful sceneries nearby. While you may have to invest in a hammock (which can be quite expensive), if you already own one, this is a great way to hang out with friends and chill out.
4. Go To The Beach.
Living on the west side of Michigan, I am privy to have a vast accessibility to different beaches. Beaches are (for the most part) free. You can swim and catch that coveted tan along the way. I also suggest bringing a frisbee or a ball to throw in the water as well. It makes an already fun event even more fun!
5. Bonfires.
Bonfires are a great way to relax after a long day or week! You can invite all your friends over to roast s'mores, have a beer, and just tell those laugh-out-loud funny stories.
Here's to summer 2017!
