Being a good kid in a sea of what a parent would consider "rebellious" can be both a blessing and a curse. Here's some struggles I've encountered while being considered one of those "goody-two-shoes-kids."
1. People you're friends with think you're "no fun."
I'm sorry that I don't find partying super fun. I would rather have a relaxing night with my best friend watching movies, or spending time shopping with my mom. I know that different things appeal to different people, so you should understand that I am not going to like everything that you do.
2. You're viewed as a 12-year-old in society.
When I tell my friends I don't drink and I've never tried smoking weed, they laugh. It's not a sin to have not done drugs in your life. Just because I would rather not get high or get wasted doesn't mean that I am any less willing to have fun with other 'adults'.
3. You don't get invited to anything.
Even though drinking and smoking aren't my thing, I wouldn't mind going to a party to socialize.Partying doesn't mean you have to be drunk - I could throw a 'party' in my basement with fruit punch and popcorn and I would have so much fun.
4. Everyone automatically assumes you're an introvert.
Even though I don't like partying, I'm a relatively fun person. I like making people laugh. I like going on adventures and I want to explore.
5. Everyone also assumes your parents are the strictest human beings in the world.
My parents swear, they drink, they have fun. Just because I'm not a rebellious kid doesn't mean I don't know what it's like. I am surrounded by people who have fun in different ways, but I always find a way to have my own good time.
Even though people think I'm a 12-year-old who doesn't do anything with my life, I know who I am and I know I can have fun. Keep your opinions to yourself-- sorry I'm a "goody-two-shoes."
