Prince, The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, The High Priest of Pop, The Prince of Funk; no matter what he was called, you knew exactly who the man behind these names was. At one point he just went by his symbol as his name and that proves that Prince does anything Prince wants and we had no problem letting him do it. He wasn't just a musician, he was an entertainer. Throughout his career, he had many dramatic hairstyle changes and more often than not, he would be a topic of conversation in the pop culture world for something he said or did any given week. After doing a little digging on The Oakland Press and Vulture, I was able to compile some of the best Prince stories that prove he was like all of us, just a little more royal.
1. He had trouble keeping his bedroom in order.
When NBA player Carlos Boozer rented out mansion to Prince back in 2006, the bedroom was the least of his worries. Boozer filed a lawsuit against Prince after he made alterations to the mansions including replacing the front gate with the classic Prince symbol, turning the bedroom into a hair salon, and dying the stream water out-front purple with purple rain comes a purple stream!
2. He doesn't like clingy-ness in a relationship.
His ex-wife, Mayte Garcia, revealed that she was not allowed to call him and would have to wait for him to call her. Who can get away with that? Only Prince.
3. He enjoyed getting his hair done.
If you didn't already figure this out from his renovation to Carlos Boozer's mansion, Prince considered easily accessible hair salons a necessity. What's easier to access than right in your own house? Garcia once shared that Prince had a hair salon built into their home that only he was allowed to use. He had nicer hair than most girls I know, myself included, now we know why.
4. He loved recreational activities just as much as the next guy.
Questlove once spoke about the time Prince invited him to go roller-skating. Prince proceeded to pull out a clear pair of customized roller-skates that lit up and "the wheels sent a multi-colored spark trail into your path." This was Prince's version of the glass slipper.
5. He was religious.
When he was a child, Prince suffered from epileptic seizures. After informing his mother he wasn't going to have them anymore, he explained he was just relaying a message that an angel told him. Through his music, Prince often expressed his closeness to religion. He also did this in the real world by going door-to-door as a Jehovah's Witness. I can't imagine anyone turning Prince away when he showed up at their front door.
