Everybody gets a little overwhelmed sometimes, I know I definitely do. Here are just a few steps that help me cope with being stressed out/overwhelmed and I hope they help you as well.

1. Exercise

When there is a lot going on and you are extremely overwhelmed, you need to find the things in the world that will be a guaranteed distraction.

Working out is the perfect example of something that will take your mind off of whatever is overwhelming you, it will make you feel good in the end, and it will make you sweat out all the bad toxins that are stressing you out.

It is the perfect go-to option to get your mind off of things just for a little bit and at the end, you will definitely be feeling better at least for a little bit.

2. Don't binge eat

When you are stressed out and a lot is going on, you may want to immediately just eat food, and not a normal amount but a lot, and all the time. Don't stress eat. It is extremely unhealthy to binge eat just because you are overwhelmed with things and it will only create bad habits and unnecessary patterns for the future.

3. Comfort yourself with friends and family

When you are overwhelmed and all you want to do is crawl up in a ball, under your sheets, and cry, that is okay but being with the people who love you will make you feel a lot better.

Your friends and family love you no matter what and always want to be there for you so, when you are in a time of need and you need to be comforted, don't be afraid to use them and don't be scared to be comforted by these people who thrive on trying to make you happy especially in these times.

4. Listen to music that makes you happy

If you aren't really into music, that's okay because this post still relates to you. In times of being stressed out or overwhelmed with a ton of things at once, music will always be there to calm you down, even if you aren't a huge fan.

If you don't know anything about music, you can one hundred find a calming playlist that may make you smile and if you love music then take a minute to just listen to the specific songs that you know make you happy and just think about how everything is going to be okay and don't stop listening until you are completely relaxed, least for just a little while, and you have a smile on your face.

5. Breath, everything will be okay.

Taking a step back and remembering that whatever is going, you will get through it is the most important part of this process. No matter how overwhelmed you are or how stressed out you are, it will always get better and there is always a way out.

It is so important to remember that. Some things that I like to do which help me when I'm overwhelmed take a yoga class or a meditation class. I also like to write out everything that makes me happy on one long list and when I am overwhelmed I just take a peek at the list and remind myself that everything is going to be okay because I still have these things.

I also journal about my life because that is a total relaxant and there are several other strategies that may completely work for you but don't work for me or vice versa. Not every strategy is for everyone but you just need to find the right fit for you that will allow you to take a step back, breath and tell yourself that everything will be okay.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
