Registering for a new semester of classes is undeniably one of the most stressful periods in a college student's life. It seems as though every other student in your entire university is also attempting to register for the same chemistry lab as you are and every offered class is available at either 8 in the morning or 8 at night. In celebration that another season of advisor-calling, schedule-planning, computer-breaking registration is behind us, here's 5 things every college student experiences when registering for classes.
1. "This semester is going to be great!"
If you're anything like me, a beautifully-crafted, color-coded sheet of potential classes is created a few days before registration begins. Every semester it seems as though this potential schedule will finally work, out. All your pre-requisites will be completed with said classes, your registration date is relatively early and with all the free time you're projected to have you might even have time to hit the gym. What could go wrong?
2. Ready for battle
You're sitting at your desk staring at the clock counting down the seconds until your registration begins. You don't dare blink in fear that your necessary psychology class will completely fill up if you do. You've checked and cleared every hold on your account, know exactly what classes to register for and even have a few back-up classes at hand.
3. Everything goes wrong
As soon as the clock strikes the time of your registration, you immediately scramble in search of your most necessary class. You type in the course code so quickly your fingers shake. The class is unavailable. You curse under your breath and continue to type in your other classes, and then your back-up classes, only to find that every single one of them is already at capacity.
4. Panic
In realization that every class you need in order to graduate is full, and that you'll probably have to stay in college for 12 years at the rate you're going, you panic. In fact, you might go into such deep panic you even consider switching majors and searching for classes for your "new" major (as I've done before).
5. Acceptance
Once coming to the realization that you're no longer on track for your major, you throw together a schedule composed of random classes that you're not sure why are even offered, slam your laptop and call it a day. You then proceed to curl into a ball on your bed, as thousands of other students are doing across your campus.
