Saturday, April 23, 2016, Beyonce shocked the world with her debut of her visual album, "Lemonade." As we all gathered around our televisions to watch what was about to be the most mind-blowing set of music videos we have ever witnessed in one sitting, no one was prepared for what came next. Beyoncé dropped into an hour long visual album which basically consisted of 12 of her 13 songs on the album "Lemonade," but in an extremely dramatic and confusing way. Is Jay Z really cheating on Bey? That can't be! We were all left sitting on the edge of our seats with our jaws dropped and eyes wide, Googling away during commercial breaks. In case you are as confused as I was the first time, here is a breakdown of all of the emotions that B takes us through on the hour long visual album journey.
1. Denial and Isolation
Damn, did she just say that she can taste the dishonesty on him? Whoa what - did Jay Z cheat on Beyoncé? There is no way this is real... Right? What?
2. Anger
Very quickly we exit a sad world of Beyoncé and enter an extremely pissed off one. There is no hiding that Beyoncé is angry with whomever (Jay Z) about cheating. It is clear that someone cheated but was it really her R&B singing hubby? And is she really going all Taylor Swift on us with this dramatic smashing cars nonsense? Oh and another thing...why does the bat say hot sauce? Okay, done with anger.
3. Bargaining
Next Beyoncé is singing about all of the things that they built together, making us feel all kinds of emotions all over again. Things got way too depressing there for a moment and I could feel Beyoncé's emotions through the screen and it was sad and magical all in one.
4. Depression
We are then taken into a fairly short song featuring James Blake. B hardly gets on the track which was disappointing for viewers but overall, I feel like the visuals it added to the video were crucial.
5. Acceptance
Beyonce then belts into an empowered and upbeat song featuring Kendrick Lamar and we are all remembering why Beyoncé is the queen again. Queen Beyoncé for president y'all, Queen Beyonce for president. After we are done dancing and feeling all types of way, we are then taken down an emotional roller-coaster toward pictures from Beyoncé and Jay Z's wedding and their private life. So are we mad at Jay Z or not, B? Just trying to keep up here.
I have watched "Lemonade" several times and I am still not entirely clear on what Beyonce was fully referencing, but I don't think we are meant to. It has been rumored that Beyoncé signed the track with the last name Carter which would lead us to believe that she is still married to Jay Z, but nothing has been confirmed. Of course, who in their right mind would cheat on Beyoncé? No one with any sense if you ask me. "Lemonade" video aside, the album is truly phenomenal and you should definitely watch it if you have not.
