Adulting, woo! In the inspiring words by Drake, "What a time to be alive!". As I'm sure any former or current intern would agree, this time symbolizes a stepping stone on the long, winding path to your transition into the real world. On your first day, comes a plethora of emotions: enthusiasm, anxiety, curiosity, confusion and errythang in between. That said, there needs to exist an article that accurately describes a "normal" first day as an intern... after you've already called your mom to say you got the job. To all the homies out there playing adult before the real work begins, this one's for you. Empathize, enjoy and remember that it can only go up from here.
Stage One: "What's appropriate to wear to work?"
Common thoughts include: What do you mean I have to "do something" with my hair? and I haven't played dress-up since I was seven and for those like me, No shot I wear pants for this.
Stage Two: "SEND HELP."
Common thoughts include: Oh okay, all I need to do is... wait, I can't remember. Oh God, I really should've wrote this down. Did they actually think I could do all of this before my lunch break? Wait, do I get a lunch break? Or more simply and elegantly put: SH*T.
Stage Three: "Don't worry, I GOT this."
Common thoughts include: You know, I think I can really, really do this. MAMA I MADE IT. I am ready, bring it on. My job is sick, this office is sick, I am sick. No, seriously- I'm probably catching something.
Stage Four: Home sweet home anddddddd I didn't think about how I was going to cook dinner.
Common thoughts include: Yeah, I really should've learnt how to make something other than Easy-Mac and cereal. On second thought, I really should've bought something like Easy-Mac and cereal. The only thing I've found in my fridge is regret. Good thing McDonalds is open 24 hours, bless up.
Stage Five: What a day, what a time to be alive.
Common thoughts include: What exactly have I gotten myself into, where's my bed, where's my MOM, and To be honest, I can't wait to do this again tomorrow...right after I sleep for 091021938123+ hours.
