Unfortunately, it happens every year. With each new school year, everyone seems to get sick about a month in. In college this is especially true, because with residence halls and cramped classrooms, it's almost impossible to get away from the crowds. Without further ado, here are the five stages people go through when they are getting sick:
1. The Denial Stage
Hmm... I woke up with a sore throat, I wonder if I didn't get enough sleep last night. I have a headache, so I must be dehydrated.
2. The "Oh No" Stage
You've realized it. You have a cold/the flu/whatever else and there's nothing you can do but wait it out.
3. The Optimistic Stage
Since you're still slightly in denial about the fact that you're gotten sick, you become overly optimistic about the speedy recovery you will most likely not have. "Oh, I'll probably be better by the weekend. I don't remember my last cold lasting for too long!"
4. The Dreaded State
So, you're still sick. You've grown completely pessimistic about your recovery, and hate yourself for taking perfect health for granted. "I wonder what it's like to actually breathe out of your nose..."
5. The Relief Stage
Finally, after hours/days/weeks, you feel no symptoms anymore, and will inevitably forget about all of the horrors that accompany being sick. Until next time...
