7 Space Saving Dorm Hacks

Everyone who lives in a dorm room knows that we are limited on space, it's hard to think of ways to maximize your living space while having so many necessities. I will be starting my sophomore year of college in September, during my freshman year, I learned a lot of space saving hacks for my dorm room that I'm eager to share. These hacks are very affordable and get the job done right.

1. Metal shelving unit.

Oh my gosh! This shelving unit is my holy grail. I would ask the person in charge of your dorm building ahead of time, if these are allowed. My building allows it simply because it's metal and doesn't count as extra furniture. I purchased a black one similar to this silver one at Bed Bath and Beyond for about $60. Definitely a life saver, it holds all of my crap and even my microwave. You can find it here

2. Storage Bins

Seriously, if you have a Five Below in your area, go there and buy a ton of these! I purchased four or five of the two pack storage bins in a black tribal print pattern. I put them on my metal shelving unit and on my top rack of my closet!! They hold so much! If you don't have a Five Below near you, Target and Walmart have similar ones, they're just a little more expensive.

3. Charging Station

Between your phone charger, laptop charger, and any other devices that need to be charged or plugged in on your desk, the wires can get messy. The charging station keeps it organized and cute.

4. Space Saving Hangers.

Let's be honest here, the closets at college are SO small. These hangers are life savers, you can fit way more in those tight spaces with these!

5. Bed Raisers.

Check with someone at your school before you purchase a bed raiser, if you're school is like mine, the beds are already built to be raised by themselves. This saves SO much space, depending how high you raise it, you can fit your fridge, dresser, and whatever else you have, underneath it!

6. Command Hooks.

Take advantage of all the wall space you have! Invest in many, many command hooks. You could hang your necklaces so they don't get tangled, hang earrings, thin strap purses, little buckets to hold pens over your desk, hats, and anything else that can fit on the hook.

7. Storage Ottoman.

Again, if you have a Five Below near you, they have some storage ottoman's for sale! Perfect if you don't want to spend $20 somewhere else for the exact same item. These help out a ton, I'm able to fit five pairs of shoes in one ottoman. They also double as a seat for friends when they go in your room, and when they're not in use, you can stick them in your closet or under your bed. They hold a lot!

Enjoy these quick, affordable space saving hacks! Move in day is quickly approaching so plan your space ahead of time.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
