There are dozens upon dozens of Christmas songs played this time of year. Songs that spread cheer, joy, and get us in the holiday spirit. I am a fan of almost every Christmas song I've heard, from "Christmas In Dixie" to "White Christmas," but it's the songs that remind of the true reason for the season that are among my all-time favorites.
Here are five Christmas classics to help remind you of the reason behind the season:
5. "Angels Among Us" by Alabama
Not your traditional Christmas hymn, "Angels Among Us" reminds us that there is a higher power looking after us. Christmas is about the birth of Christ, and the very angels who appeared the night of Christ's birth praising Him are among us today protecting and guiding us for the Father.
4. "Mary Did You Know"
A Christmas classic, "Mary Did You Know" uses this question to tell of the greatness which Christ grew to be. Lucky for us, not only did Mary know Jesus was special, but every time we hear this tune, we do too.
3. "Little Drummer Boy"
Another Christmas classic, "Little Drummer Boy" is an image of the worship we should give God. In the song, the drummer boy is poor and has nothing to offer God in worship except his talent, so the boy plays his best for Him. We should follow by example.
2. "Do You Hear What I Hear"
Another song which uses a question to detail the story of Christ, "Do You Hear What I Hear" reminds of the event we're truly celebrating.
1. "Give This Christmas Away" by Matthew West
When Christ was born, He began a life which He gave everything He had for God's plan and purpose, and to others. As followers of Christ, it is our duty to live lives which create images of Christ. This beautiful song reminds us of this duty.
Every Christmas song is a beauty, filled with joy and holiday cheer; however, it is the ones which remind us of the God who created the holiday which mean the most. This Christmas season, enjoy your music, and remember the reason for the season.
