5 Songs To Get You in the Autumn Mood

While many people dread the time when summer comes to an end, I think, the best season is fall. Autumn is a special time of year when people of all ages gather to watch the beautiful changing of the seasons. Over the years many famous poets have written about my favorite season such as William Shakespeare in his "Sonnet 73" and W. H. Auden's "Autumn Song". I came up with a lot that will help you fall in love with autumn!

"The Autumn Tree" by Milo Greenehttps://play.spotify.com/album/15wQEsBsbl14I4m1yEu....

Milo Greene is a self-described cinematic indie pop band that formed in Los Angeles, California that blends different elements of folk and electronic beats into their songs. Their song "Autumn Tree" features both electric and acoustic guitar with the lead vocals done by Robbie Arnett who gives the impression of a longing in his voice that is haunting to the listener. Some lyrics from the song include:

“This this my old shape

my mind is away

how long have you been gone

the cold winter aged the soft of your face

and I can't move on".

I have been listening to the band Milo Greene for a few years now, and this song definitely puts you in the mindset of a windy autumn day.

"White Daisy Passing" by Rocky Votolato https://play.spotify.com/user/12146061171/playlist...

Rocky Votolato is a folk-rock singer songwriter from a small town called Frost,Texas. His songs often are reminiscent of his upbringing surrounded by nature and isolated from the rest of the world. "White Daisy Passing" is a prime example of his nature driven imagery. The song features a soft acoustic guitar as the only instrument, and vocals from Votolato with soft harmonies layered in the background. Lyrics from the song include:

“Because I couldn't let go when the water hit the setting sun

Passing white daisies taking turns

Close the door walk into the street

Catching raindrops on your tongue.”

Votolato’s soothing voice and melodic guitar can brighten anyone’s mood and can certainly be the perfect theme for a fall day.

“Autumn Sweater” by Yo La Tengo

Yo La Tengo (often abbreviated as YLT) is an American indie rock band formed in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1984. “Autumn Sweater” has a hard beat that plays throughout the whole song which is complimented by lead singer Ira Kaplan’s soft voice that portrays the lyrics with an incredible amount of feeling. Some lyrics from the song include:

“We could slip away, wouldn't that be better

Me with nothing to say, and you in your autumn sweater

I tried my best to hide

In a crowded room, it's nearly possible”

Yo La Tengo’s effortless sound is perfect for a lazy autumn day to just kick back and listen.

“Willie” by Cat Power https://play.spotify.com/artist/6G7OerKc3eBO9sVkRN...

Cat Power is an indie rock artist with a unique voice and equally unique songs. Her songs normally feature guitar, piano, and most importantly her stunning vocals. More than anything about her music, Cat Power’s voice exudes fall. It’s dark, moody, and smokey. Extremely reminiscent of the season. “Willie” is a prime example of her work. Some lyrics from Cat Power’s song are:

“Another love I still love

Familiar face to me

A standing arch above my heart

I've never been to reach

He's laid my head on the bed

And told me sweetie I'm not

Crazy like all the others said”

“Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star https://play.spotify.com/album/5K18gTgac0q6Jma5HkV...

Mazzy Star is an American alternative rock band formed in Santa Monica, California, in 1989. “Fade Into You” combines many instruments and their lead singer’s unique voice to create a masterpiece. Some lyrics from the song include:

“You live your life
You go in shadows
You'll come apart and you'll go blind
Some kind of night into your darkness
Colors your eyes with what's not there”

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
