It’s been a great year so far. Ed Sheeran dropped his new album. Lorde released a new song after 4 years. Moonlight won Best Picture at the Oscars. And, now that March has arrived, the days are getting longer and warmer as we approach the first day of spring.
If you’re a student at UC Berkeley, you know that Spring Break isn’t until the last week of March, and as much as you want to get hammered on St. Patrick’s Day, you probably have another midterm to study for the week after. Nevertheless, here are a few jams to keep you sane while you study until 3 am every night.
1. Ed Sheeran, “Eraser”
To tell you the truth, I wanted to add every single song from "Divide" to this list this month, but since I’m all about diversity, I’m going to hold off for now. Basically, if you haven’t heard Ed Sheeran’s new album, you’re seriously missing out because “Eraser” is one of the catchiest songs I have ever heard.
2. Vampire Weekend, “A-Punk”
Honestly, this song reminds me of the average Cal student on 98 mg of Adderall -- twitching and buzzing with energy. While Vampire Weekend is mostly known for their song “Oxford Comma,” “A-Punk” give the listener a solid double-punch. The lyrics are complex, the production unorthodox.
3. Twenty One Pilots, “House Of Gold”
Tired of hearing “Stressed Out” on the radio all the time? No matter how many Grammys “Stressed Out” may win, the song is, without a shadow of doubt, overplayed. Instead, take a look into some of their older material. My favorite? “House Of Gold.”
4. Lorde, “Green Light”
Oh, you bet I’m adding this song to the list. Lorde is back and better than ever, and “Green Light” was worth the wait. Compared to her older material on Pure Heroine, “Green Light” is like a futuristic vortex, as Lorde ventures into the field of polished dance-pop. But, as always, everything she does is beautiful.
