5 Snowball Stands You Need To Try (Or Revisit) This Summer

Louisiana is famous for many things, and one of those things is snowballs. These icy sweet desserts hold a special place in the hearts of the locals. Read here about the go-to snowball spots.

Condensed milk, ice cream stuffed, and tons of different flavors – snowballs may be one of the best inventions ever. They have different versions of snowballs out there – like snowcones or slushies – but none of them even compare to the melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness that is the Louisiana snowball. Different stands might spell it "snowball" and some others spell it "sno-ball," but what really matters is that they are all delicious no matter how you spell it.

It’s already snowball season (aka happiness season) here in Louisiana! When those snowball stands open up, it’s a sign that long spring and summer days are here. That means pool days, trips to the beach, tan skin, and lots of summer parties. When the heat gets overwhelming, one of the most delicious ways to cool off is with snowballs! Here are 5 must-try (or must revisit) stands to stop by this summer:

1. Plum Street Snowballs

It’s a classic. I had to have them on the list. I mean, who doesn’t like eating a snowball out of a Chinese takeout container?

2. Casey’s and 3. Sal’s

If you live in Kenner, Casey’s is probably your go-to stand. If you live in Metairie, Sal’s is probably your spot. There’s always been a snowball war between Metairie natives and Kenner natives on who’s stand is better. I’m going to settle this once and for all – Casey’s is better

4. Hanson’s Sno-Bliz

3 words: Bananas Foster Sno-bliz. I got my eye on that one and can’t wait to finally try it! Hanson’s almost always has a line because their sno-bliz is one of a kind. A sno-bliz is different than a snowball because it has much softer ice. It’s been around since 1939 and they have unique flavors that you can’t get at any other snowball stand.

5. Sno-La

CHEESECAKE STUFFED! You heard that right. I’m not even that big of a cheesecake fan but this is probably my favorite place out of all of the stands I’ve listed. Their Berry Chantilly snowball is a must try.

I hope you explore all these snowball stands this summer. Let me know in the comments below if I missed one that should have been on this list!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
