Every college campus across the country is unique in every aspect of the word. Some are bigger, some are smaller, some even have multiple campuses. However, there are some signs that only students know. It's what drives them up a wall, but it's also what makes the university feel like home. There are countless signs to choose from, but the top five are ones every UT student knows about.
1) The outrageous line at Dairy Queen at 10 P.M. on a Sunday night.
Since Sundays are the last day to get rid of any meals you have left for your meal plan, some students get a late-night snack at Dairy Queen in Morsani Hall to spend that last meal. Most others are just simply craving sweets at that time of night. Either way, you know you'll be there for awhile if the line is closer to the door than it is to the restaurant and i's almost closing time.
2) You can't find a parking spot... ANYWHERE.
Whether its the Vaughn lot, the lot behind Plant, or the Thomas Garage, you know the struggle is real when it comes to parking. You could circle the campus five times and still not find a convenient place to park. Unless, of course, it's the weekend and everyone's gone... or you wake up early and get here at 7 am just to get a good spot.
3) You call LASER Team for everything.
Everyone knows how awesome LASER Team drivers are. Some, however, call them to tote them over to Morsani to get something to eat late at night. We all know the struggle. As I always say: when in doubt, call LASER Team.
4) You have to catch your breath once you get to the 4th floor of Plant Hall.
Don't get me wrong, Plant Hall is one of the most gorgeous buildings I've ever seen in Florida. Every UT student enters it at least twice every day. However, we don't like it when we have to climb all the way to the 4th floor for something. Those steps are steep and we feel like we've climbed Mount Everest once we get to the top.
5) It takes 10 minutes just to load a webpage
Everyone uses some sort of Wi-Fi enabled device on campus. No matter what you use with wi-fi, you know how slow it is. It typically takes about 10 minutes to fully load a webpage in the middle of the day. Don't even get me started when it comes to using it on a cell phone. Trying to load Instagram, which doesn't work half the time, while connected to the wi-fi is like watching a pot of water boil on low heat - it's gonna take forever before it gets going.
Some of these might seem like general issues, but UT students really identify with these problems on a daily basis. Most upperclassmen have known these for a long time, but us freshman are just now getting a taste. Next time you talk to someone about where you go to school, just remember all the reason you love to love and love to hate the University of Tampa.
