5 Things To Do If You Are Single on Vday

Valentine's Day, the holiday of love. My problem with this holiday is that it's total BS! Why? Because it's just giving people excuses to express the love they have for that person on one day out of the year. The profound love that you have for someone should be showed every single day, not just one day! I find nothing appealing about it and it's not because I'm single; trust me there's tons of single people out there that LOVE Valentines Day. For those that feel the same way about this day, here are some activities that you can do to make yourself feel better on Valentine's Day!

1. Dress up and treat yourself out.

Make this day an important "me day." Do your makeup and wear that new dress you bought a week ago. You know, the one you bought for no special occasion but you just couldn't leave the store without it. Every once in awhile I think it's crucial that we take some time for ourselves; especially on V'Day.

2. Go to the new restaurant you've been dying to try.

If you are like me, you love food. I am always taking myself out to eat. Whether I'm alone or with a friend, sometimes being on my own and observing all the couples around you sets the tone a bit. You just casually think about what type of conversations they're having. Don't forget to also treat yourself to a good wine, ask the staff which they recommend or which is their best seller.

3. If eating by yourself isn't your scene, throw a small get together.

Many people like us are also single and hate valentines day, so get some food, get the drinks out and have a marathon watching romantic movies. Here's a game: drink every time they kiss, cry, or fight because they don't know what they want or who they want. Surrounding yourself with other single people allows you to bond over how much of a stress reliever it is to not be in an unwanted relationship. You can also talk about the fun and exciting things you can do since you're single.

4. Go out and just do something.

This could mean go get a new tattoo, a new piercing, take a dance class, or painting class. Or if you're feeling daring and fearless go skydiving. While surrounded by many couples you tend to feel left out, and it's a feeling we all share. So to take our minds away from feeling the need to be cuffed to someone, go out and do something that at the end of the day you'll be happy with.

5. If all else fails then stay inside.

If planning to get out of bed just to get yourself out the door is too much of a hassle just stay in. Grab your favorite snack and binge watch some Netflix shows or movies. Here are some of my favorites: The 100, Supergirl, Alice Through the Looking Glass, 10 Things I Hate About You, Clueless.

Valentines days is just one day and it's not the end of the world. So to all my single people, we got this!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
