"Be positive!" We have all heard it over and over again and I'm sure we have all wondered exactly how to accomplish such a seemingly simple task. How do I just "be positive?" Think happy thoughts and that good things will come? Hold a constant smile on my face, no matter what I'm feeling on the inside? Always answer that the glass is half full? Sure, we can all find happiness in doing the things that we enjoy and surrounding ourselves with the people who make us feel loved and worthy, but spreading positivity is a completely different challenge with an abundance of rewards waiting on the other side. I have found that the easiest way to find positivity for oneself is to inspire and evoke positivity in others.
1. Tell someone that you are proud of them.
This simple phrase has the ability to transform someone's day. It allows the recipient of your kind words to feel that whatever they are doing is good enough. Their success and reassured smile is sure to have you beaming as well.
2. Offer a high-five.
A congratulatory high-five goes a long way — offering a split second of human contact, a feeling of success, and plenty of giggles too (especially when you miss and have a re-try).
3. Spread the positivity online.
Social media makes it easy to share, post, tweet, blog, and spread negativity. Posts and shares are notoriously mocking, complaining, or complete with an argument. Instead, try posting the funny things, the cute things, the beautiful things, and share all of the positivity in your life.
4. Compliment a stranger.
Standing on line in the grocery store, waiting at the gas pump, or wandering the aisles of your favorite store. Take the time to observe your surroundings and genuinely compliment a stranger. "I love your hair." "Where did you get your shoes?" "You have great eyes." It will only have the affect of positivity if you compliment in the most pure form.
5. Say thank you.
Always say thank you for the simple things and for the more complicated things. Say thank you for the things that may usually go unnoticed. By acknowledging your own gratefulness you will feel positive and by recognizing someone else's hard work you will fill their bucket with positivity as well.
In a lifetime search for happiness, spreading positivity may just be the best way to find yourself and those around you beaming with happiness. Positivity creates a circle spreading quickly from person to person. Join the circle.
